Meet Noe!
Noe Mercy, derby number 127, is a jammer for the Honey Island Rollers, a roller derby team based in Malta.
She joined the league in January 2021 as part of the gen 1 rookies, with no prior skating or derby knowledge whatsoever. And she’s come so far! Noe quickly fell in love with the sport and found it to be life-changing. As she puts it, “derby has changed my life!! I love it, I love getting stronger and the confidence it has given me!”
Noe Mercy’s journey in roller derby is proof that anyone can learn and excel in this sport, regardless of their background or experience. She had no prior sports experience as an adult, yet she was able to embrace roller derby and become a fierce jammer.
As a hairdressing lecturer, Noe Mercy is used to teaching others. Within HIR, she’s stepped into the Training Committee as a main league trainer. Her sessions are always challenging, because she likes to add in a bit of mindwork and strategic thinking – after making the skaters sweat of course!
When things get tough…
Playing derby has also taught her valuable life lessons, such as the importance of getting up and going, even when things get tough. Her favourite film is Grease, and she loves french fries. We’re with you there on the fries Noe.
Noe Mercy’s advice for new skaters is to never give up, even when things get challenging. Improvement comes with practice and determination, and the rewards are immense. What’s the best thing about playing roller derby with the Honey Island Rollers for Noe? It’s the sense of family that the team has created. They have grown together and become a supportive and caring group, united by their love for the sport.
Noe is an inspiration to all those who want to pursue their dreams, regardless of their age, background, or experience. Her passion and dedication to roller derby are a testament to the power of determination and hard work.
