Meet Swiffer, the roller derby player who has found a new passion for exercise and community through Honey Island Rollers.
Swiffer, officially known as Slaylor Swift, is a British national living in Malta for the past few years. She joined HIR in 2021, making this her first roller derby experience.
Although she is still discovering her position on the team, Swiffer has found her role off the track as the Social Media Manager. That’s right, all the cute captions and cheeky reels you’ll find on our socials are a result of her work. As an HR Coordinator in her professional life, Swiffer brings her organisational skills to the league and she also leads the Events Committee – she’s one busy bee!
Swiffer’s previous sports experience includes dance and fin swimming when she was younger, but she had not pursued any athletic endeavours as an adult until discovering roller derby. Playing roller derby has taught her that exercise doesn’t have to be boring and can be a fun and exciting way to stay active.
When she’s not on the track or managing HIR’s social media, Swiffer enjoys listening to Taylor Swift’s song Karma or Earth Wind and Fire’s September on repeat. She is also a gamer, and plays the Sims in every moment of her limited free time. Her advice for new skaters is: “don’t be afraid of falling, as the more you fall, the less scary it becomes”.
What Swiffer loves most about HIR is the inclusive space and the special people who make up the community. Through her experience in roller derby, Swiffer has found a supportive group of friends who share her love for the sport and who have become an important part of her life.
